〈時光快刀世無敵〉林中明 速譯七古，未能三達。
SONNET 12
When I do count the clock that tells the time,
當我數著報時鐘，
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
望著白日沉入夜。
When I behold the violet past prime,
又看紫花盛轉凋，
And sable curls all silver'd o'er with white;
貂黑髮鬈銀白謝。
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,
樹蔭曾為牧童遮，
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
如今大樹空無葉。
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves,
夏日綠草紮成束，
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
白髮硬鬚身埋滅。
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
我疑美貌難長存，
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
時間一到便衰竭。
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
甜美事物終棄生，
And die as fast as they see others grow;
一榮一衰本定業。
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
時光快刀世無敵，
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.

新年期間, 收到" 詩行天下" 作者林中明先生翻譯的一首莎翁的詩。我雖識莎翁的鼎鼎大名, 郤除了學生時代看的一部老電影"殉情記", 至今難以忘懷, 對莎翁的其他詩文劇作知之甚少, 林先生快譯此詩應景, 欣喜之餘, 自詩句中, 回憶起"殉情記"裏許多精彩的對白, 以及女主角酷似東方人的美貌。 



 

這部片在1968 年出品, 當時Olivia Hussey 只有16 歲, 隔了43年, 青春不再, "貂黑髮鬈銀白謝", 而60 歲的她, 自有那年歲的迷人丰采。
